Here at VeryVera Camp, we are proud of the many bright young people we get to work with. One of which is Michele J. Lundy. Michele is a junior counselor at VeryVera Camp and has a special connection to this month’s camp, Heart and Sole.
Heart and Sole, Inc is a nonprofit that benefits the Children’s Hospital of Georgia here in Augusta. For our February camp, we are partnering with Heart and Sole and giving back a portion of each registration to Heart and Sole.
Michele, a previous patient at the children’s hospital, shares a little bit about why she believes this month’s camp is especially important.
“I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia pre-b cell on December 28, 2011. I was 7 years old and the treatment plan was 2 1/2 years of treatment. The Children’s Hospital Georgia offered to put me on a clinical research study so that I didn’t have to have as much treatment. I started VeryVera Camp when I was 12 years old because I want to be a chef when I grow up. I am now a junior assistant counselor and love it. I am really proud that VeryVera camp is giving back to the children’s Hospital of Georgia to help other children.
On March 1, 2020 I will be six years off a treatment, but I still go to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia once a year to get a physical and have my blood counts checked so the fact that a portion of this camp raises money to support the Children’s Hospital is very important to me.”
Thanks for your support of VeryVera Camp and Heart and Sole!
