Prep Time 20 minutes 
Cook Time 15 minutes 
Total Time 35 minutes 
Ingredients 
For Devil’s Food Cake: • 1 cup butter, room temp • 2 cups sugar • 3 eggs, room temp • 2 cups cake flour • 1 cup Hershey’s cocoa powder • 2 teaspoons baking soda • 1 teaspoon salt • 2 cups buttermilk, room temp • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 
Instructions 
1. Heat oven to 325 degrees. 
2. Cream the butter and sugar together using a stand mixer for 2 - 3 minutes until light and fluffy. 
3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. 
4. Whisk cake flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. 
5. Combine the buttermilk and vanilla in a liquid measuring cup. 
6. With mixer on low, alternately add the flour mixture and the buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. 
7. Divide batter into muffin tins lined with paper liners (sprayed with cooking spray). 8. Bake for 15 minutes until done. Remove from pan and cool completely. 
Ingredients 
For Chocolate Frosting: • ¼ cup butter, room temp • ¼ cup Hershey’s cocoa powder, sifted • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar • ⅓ cup whole milk • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract • Oreos • Chocolate Chips • Reese’s Pieces 
Frosting Instructions 
9. Using a hand mixer, beat butter until smooth and soft. 
10. Add the cocoa powder and beat until incorporated. 
11. Add milk and vanilla and mix until smooth. 
12. Add confectioners’ sugar slowly until incorporated. 
13. You may need a little more confectioners’ sugar or a little more milk, depending on the weather. 
Assembly Instructions 
1. Frost cupcakes with chocolate frosting. 
2. Carefully twist Oreos to open each into 2 sides. 
3. Place each Oreo half on cupcake, touching, to look like large owl eyes. 
4. Add one chocolate chip to the center of each Oreo half for eyeball. 
5. Place one orange or yellow Reese’s Pieces below eyes to resemble a beak. 
6. Gently push icing “horns” above Oreos for the Great Horned Owl. 
7. Enjoy! .
